Meet the Team

  • Paul Herrera

    PRESIDENT

    Mr. Herrera grew up in Stockton, CA. He has traveled the world performing in Beijing, England, Spain, Carnegie Hall, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and throughout Valencia, Spain. He is the current music director at Joseph A. Gregori High School. In his tenure at Gregori High School he has led students on performance tours at California’s Great America, the French Quarter Jazz Festival in New Orleans, the Museum of Flight in Seattle, and The Great Wolf Lodge. Students of the Gregori Musical Arts program have had opportunities to visit and perform at UC Berkeley, UCLA, Modesto Junior College, San Joaquin Delta College, Fresno State, San Jose State University, Loyola University, UC Davis, Stanford University, CSU Bakersfield, Sacramento State University, CSU Fullerton, University of the Pacific, University of Washington, Seattle Pacific to see what their music programs have to offer.

    As an educator: he has taught private brass lessons since 2007. His private students have received top brass player awards at their schools; auditioned and made local honor bands, honor orchestras, and the California All-State Honor Bands. Paul received his bachelor of arts in music education from Fresno State in 2010. Paul has been a faculty member at Clovis West High School, Washington Union High School, American Union Elementary School, San Jose State University, and California State University, Stanislaus. In 2013, he was selected as American Union Elementary School's “Teacher of the Year.” In 2016, he completed his MA degree in Instrumental Conducting at San Jose State University and was the recipient of the Class of 2016 “Outstanding Graduate Music Student” Award.

    Paul is an active member of the National Association for Music Education, California Music Educators Association, California Orchestra Directors Association, California Band Directors Association, served as Logistics Coordinator for the California Alliance for Jazz 2020-2023, and served as Treasurer for the Stanislaus County Music Educators Association from 2017-2022.

  • Richard Winkler

    VICE-PRESIDENT

    Richard Winkler is the current Director of Instrumental Music at Fred C. Beyer High School where he directs their Jazz Ensemble, Concert Band, and String Orchestra. He is also one of the co-directors of the Modesto City Marching Brigade. Richard Winkler got his Bachelors in Music Education and Music Performance from California State University Stanislaus and has been teaching in Stanislaus County since 2012. As a performer Richard has played with groups such as the Modesto Symphony Orchestra, Sacramento Philharmonic, Townsend Opera, YES Company, and Modesto Performing Arts. Richard is an active member in several music advocacy groups such as Stanislaus County Music Educators Association, California Band Directors Association, Central Valley Guard and Percussion Alliance, California Music Educators Association, and the Northern California Band Association.

  • Rogelio Garibay-Ochoa

    Rogelio Garibay Ochoa is the Director of Instrumental Music at James C. Enochs High School in Modesto, CA. Rogelio Garibay received his Bachelor of Music (Education and Performance) from CSU Stanislaus in 2012. As a performer at CSU Stanislaus, Rogelio was a member of the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Tuba Quartet. During the Summer months he served as lead counselor for Summer Music at Stanislaus and camp counselor at Hayward La Honda Summer Music Camp. Rogelio also served as Assistant Conductor for the Modesto Symphony Youth Orchestra’s Wind Ensemble (2012-2013). Rogelio likes to involve himself in local and music performing arts advocacy groups, such as Central Valley Guard and Percussion Circuit, Stanislaus County Music Educator's Association, and the Central California Youth Wind Ensemble to ensure that young musicians and performers have a place in which they can sharpen their skills and share their talents with a wider audience. He hopes to continue to create a safe and inclusive setting in which his students feel comfortable to learn about music and the performing arts while empowering them to sculpt their own futures.
